The Youth Cultural Centre Maribor (Mladinski kulturni center Maribor) is a public institute, founded in 1993 by the Municipality of Maribor. It is active in the field of youth culture and associated activities. It promotes and organizes cultural programmes, intended for the young. Through it’s programme activity it enables artistic and creative work of the young in various fields, secures advice, mentor help and informal education as well as technical and infrastructural service help. The institute strives to nurture inter-cultural contacts between the young in Europe and to establish cultural and social identity of the young and contact with the richness of national and European culture. In the implementation of their activities, the institute cooperates with similar institutions from the field of culture and youth work in Slovenia and abroad. The institute programmes are structured in the form of regular programme activities and both permanent and temporary projects. Among the regular programme activities are the festival of literature Slovenian Book Days festival in Maribor (Slovenski dnevi knjige v Mariboru), international festival of contemporary stage praxis Performa, international festival of contemporary intermedia art MFRU, cycle of literary events MKS Črka and contemporary fine art activities, taking place in within the framework of the Media Nox gallery as well as the MMC Cultural Incubator. Among the permanent projects that must be mentioned are the informative and counselling activities for the young, cycles of creative activities during the holidays and cycles of informal education. The institute manages its venue the Media Nox Gallery at Židovska ulica 12 and the Cultural Incubator at Koroška cesta 18. In both venues numerous events are held, from the various areas of youth activities, hosting renowned artists and lecturers to various workshops and round tables.
